"Lutein" is known as an antioxidant component that protects the eyes from damage caused by blue light and ultraviolet rays. Lutein is naturally-occurring in the human body, but since it cannot be manufactured by the human body, it must be obtained daily from food or supplements. However, low lutein level is a factor in eye diseases such as low vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration due to the effects of sunlight.
Lutein supplements can be roughly divided into two types: “free lutein” and “lutein esters”, and the difference lies in the absorption rate. "Lutein ester" is "free lutein" combined with "fatty acid" and is unrefined lutein extracted from marigolds. "Lutein- FloraGLO" uses lutein extracted from marigolds by a patented method. This lutein has been decomposed and refined into "free lutein" that can be absorbed by the body.
